Emcee Jesz records for Tamil film

He was in Chennai recently to record for composer Harris Jayaraj, among other things.

He rapped for a full-fledged English song that'll feature in Prabhu Deva's upcoming flick, and understandably, Emcee Jesz is super excited about it. "Harris has always used me very differently in his tracks. In this number, I rap fully in English. The track is a proper hip-hop and RNB number," states the musician.

Association with Harris
It has been excellent. He's a brilliant composer-cum-engineer. I love the fat mixing and mastering quality in his music. This time, I'm recording three songs for him, including two for Ko.

Rap in Kollywood
... provides a nice flavour to the numbers as the Tamil audiences are used to listening to love numbers and kuthu songs. Tamil rap has become a trend now and I'm happy that my album Kavithai Gundar was a huge hit last year. Rap has got attitude, meaning and style; it just gels well in any kind of music and boosts it up.

Of kuthu and rap
When rap blends with other genres, it helps the album musically. Till now, Tamil rap has been mixed with kuthu songs and my four songs in this blend have been featured in Kuruvi and Maasilamani.

Inspiration
My role model for hip-hop music is Dr Dre from the United States. His music made me get into rap music deeply and helped me a lot. He is a hardworking rap musician with 'street attitude'!

Lyrical variety
I love Vijay Antony's unique style of using new words in his songs. I've just worked with him for a song in Uthama Putthiran. Other than that, I'm also working with D Imman in Valluvar Kottam.

K.S. Ravikumar to direct ‘Sultan – The Warrior’?

Here’s an interesting buzz that has been sensationalizing the entire town during recent times. With Soundarya Rajnikanth entering nuptials with Ashwin, rumors were that she wouldn’t be involving herself into more portfolios. She wanted to make her debut directorial with ‘Sultan – The Warrior’, with Rajnikanth playing lead role. This film was boasted of being the first 3D animation movie in Indian film industry. Later Soundarya planned of making few portions in Live animation picture.

But now it seems that the complete second half will be in Live-Motion Format and K.S. Ravikumar has been approached to wield the megaphone.

When inquired the closer sources on this, they remained tightlipped admitting that discussions are on initial level and nothing has been confirmed for the moment.

Prabhu Deva : Yes, I am in love with Nayan

He is one of the busiest persons in Indian cinema. He is a dancing legend, an actor, director, and a top choreographer.

Everyone knows that the reticent Prabhu Deva is also a man in love but has stayed away from making any sound bytes, interviews or even clarified media reports.

Throughout his career, he has never discussed or spoke about his personal life even when his affair with top actress Nayanthara was doing the rounds.

For the past one year, ever since Nayan acted in Villu a film that Prabhu directed, much has been written about their relationship and media has been working overtime especially after Nayan tattooed Prabhus name on her wrist. But either Prabhu or Nayan did not comment on their relationship nor deny it.

In this first ever exclusive interview to sify.com, from Malshej Ghat near Mumbai where he is shooting for Urumi, Prabhu Deva opens up

How is the shooting for Urumi progressing?

The shooting is going on briskly and we all are enjoying it. I will be completing this schedule and will be off for the song shoot of the Jayam Ravi-Hansika film that I am directing. The title will be changed from Ich and I will be announcing it soon.

The media has been writing in detail about your affair with Nayanthara. But you have so far refused to talk about it or acknowledge the relationship. Why ?

Throughout my career the media has been writing a lot of things about me, but I have never bothered to react or call a press meet to clarify or issue a denial. As far as Nayanthara is concerned she is special. Yes I am in love with Nayanthara and we will be getting married soon. Its a personal decision and I dont like to talk about it to the media. Basically Im not comfortable opening my heart out to the media.

The grapevine has it that Nayan has quit acting to settle down with you. Please comment?

Shes very contrary to the glam image that you see. Shes a home bird, very simple. Any man who is in love would like to spend more time with his woman . I am no different and there is no meaning in both of us being busy and having no time for each other. She had a beautiful innings and I know very well that she is a top actress who is much in demand.

What is that one defining change that Nayan has brought in you?

(Smiles) Its not one, there are many. She has stood by me in my difficult times and her support was like an oasis in the desert.

Earlier I was a short-tempered person but now my assistants and friends say that I have mellowed down a lot (Smiles). She is a very strong person and has made me like her. She has taught me how to love each other unconditionally and how to carry myself in public. She is a wonderful human being and I find everything about her lovable.

SPB sings for Harris Jayaraj after 3 years

SP Balasubramaniam has sung under the music direction of Harris Jayraj after a gap of three years. And not only that, he is singing for Harris for the first time in Tamil for the movie ’7aam Arivu’ movie. The last time he sung for Harris was in Telugu for Mahesh Babu’s ‘Sainikudu’ movie.

The film has Suriya and Shruti Haasan in the lead roles. It is being directed by AR Muragodoss of Ghajini fame. Anu Vardhan, wife of director Vishnu Vardhan who revolutionised style with Billa has been signed up to style the actors. So for Udhayanidhi Stalin of Red Giant Movies, this has been a coup of sorts.

Now the title of Prabhu deva's film has been named as "Engeyum Kaadhal" on the lines of the lead song of the film.

Endhiran official Trailer Launched

The trailer of Rajnikanth-starrer ‘Endhiran’ was on Saturday. The event was organized in a multiplex and was attended by film personalities.

Superstar Rajinikanth and glamorous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are in the lead and it is expected to release on September 24.

Endhiran, touted as the costliest movie ever produced in India.

Why no 3D version for 'Endhiran'?

Asserting that there were plans to go for a 3D version of 'Endhiran' initially, cinematographer of the mega budget film Rathnavel has said the idea had to be dropped due to various reasons.

"One of the reasons behind giving up the idea was theatre owners would have to change their screens for the 3D version. Besides the fact that the process could cost them much, it is also a time consuming factor", he said.

The cameraman, who is popularly called as Randy, added: "In addition to that, many in Hollywood are not happy about the 2D to 3D conversion process. So we had no other option than dropping the idea".

On working with Superstar Rajinikanth, he said, "His hard work and dedication amazed me a lot. He was like a fresher on the sets of ‘Endhiran’, doing whatever the director wanted him to do. In a word, he is the Superstar".

Ich is now ‘Engeyum Kadhal’

Early this month we had said that two films with fancy small titles, Pushkar-Gayatri directed ‘Va- Quarter Cutting’ and the other is Prabhu Deva directed ‘Ich’, may go in for title changes.

Cloud Nine Movies Dhayanidhi Alagiri had said his ‘Va- Quarter Cutting’ will stay. He explained the title saying ‘Va’ means the fractional number one fourth written in Tamil and ‘Quarter Cutting’ is just a tag and not the title.

But Prabhu Deva hasn’t got an acceptable explanation for the title and so has changed ‘Ich’ to ‘Engeyum Kadhal’. Music Director of the film Harris Jayaraj has confirmed the title change and he also has said from where the title has been grabbed.

The title has been taken from the lead song of the film. Of course the new title is far better than the previous one. Interestingly only a couple of days ago Prabhu Deva had gone public saying he loves Nayantara and they soon will marry. Engeyum Kadhal, Eppodhum Kadhal.

Playback Singer Swarnalatha Passes Away

Actor Murali’s death left us in trauma few days ago. Before we could recover from that, we have another bad news.

The famous playback singer Swarnalatha passed away today (Sunday, Sep 12, 2010) at a private hospital in Chennai due to liver illness. She was 37.

Swarnalatha was not well for sometime due to improper functioning of liver. The body of Swarnalatha was brought to her residence at Saligramam,Chennai and has kept there for public homage.

Hailing from Palakkad, she had been singing for films since 1982. She was introduced by Illayaraja in 1982 with a song ‘Chinnanchiru Kiliye Kannamma’ in ‘Neethikku Thandanai’.

Yet she became popular with ‘Povoma Oorgolam’ – Chinna Thambi. ‘Aattama’ – Captain Prabhakaran, ‘Raakozhi Rendum ‘ -Uzhavan, ‘Kuliruthu’ – Tajmahal, ‘Evano Oruvan’ – Alaipayuthey, ‘Porale Ponnuthaayi’ – Karuthamma, ‘Usilampatti’ – Gentleman, ‘Thirumana Malargal’ – Poovellam Un Vaasam, ‘Thuli Thuiliyaai’ – Paarvai Ondrey Pothume and more to note are hers.

She had rendered songs in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, Urdu, etc. Swarnalatha was also a dubbing artiste and won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her rendition of the famous song Porale Ponnuthayi from the film Karuththamma.The song was composed by A.R.Rahman, with whom she has given lot of memorable songs.

She was one of the ‘melodious’ (eg. Maalayil Yaaro Manathodu Pesa from Chatriyan) as well as ‘experimenting’ singer (eg. Mukkabla of Kadhalan) of her times.

Singer Chinmayi has tweeted: “Singer Swarnalatha passes on. A singer I have admired and looked up to.”
