Trisha walks the ramp for Sidney Sladen
Chennai based designer Sidney Sladen recently showcased his new spring summer collection ‘My Secret Garden’ 2012. The show saw an array of celebrities gracing the occasion. And guess who was the show stopper? It was none other than Sidney’s good friend Trisha. The actress was clad in a gorgeous white and red bridal gown. Aparna, Adith, VJ Pooja, Jayam Ravi with wife, Ganesh Venkatraman, Namitha, Sona, Soniya Agarwal, Srikanth, Vijay Yesudas, Ramya Krishna graced the event.
Nayanthara speaks about Sri Ramarajyam
Think of the Hindu calendar Gods and you are sure to find Nayanthara’s face there. The grace and confidence with which she carried the role of Sita in Sri Ramarajyam is being appreciated by one and all. She not only got the rare distinction of working under veteran director Bapu but share screen space with ANR and Balakrishna in a landmark film that is going to be written in the annals of Telugu cinema.
She is making news for all the right reasons. And if rumours are to be believed, Sri Ramarajyam is her last film before she ties the knot with Prabhu Deva.
In this exclusive chat with Sridevi Sreedhar, Nayanthara opens up.
Did you watch Sri Ramarajyam?
Yes I did watch the film on my birthday (Nov 18) evening at Four Frames preview theatre in Chennai. The producer of the film Yalamanchali Sai Babu was kind enough to arrange this special show for me, my staff and close friends. As I said earlier, it was my best birthday gift.
How did you get into the skin of Sita, the most revered character in Hindu Mythology?
(Smiles) First and foremost, I was very happy when this offer came my way. But soon my excitement turned into fear, as I was scared if I will be able to do the role, which was made memorable by veteran actors like Anjali Devi convincingly. Bapu sir came to my rescue and he guided me- be it my expressions, costume or gait. He gave me complete freedom and asked me not to follow anyone and bring my own style to the character. It was a matter of time and within couple of days, I got into the skin of Sita and I lived the role, enjoyed every bit of it. I could relate so much with Sita who was bearing the pain of being separated from her husband..
How did you prepare yourself for the role?
Nothing much. I completely surrendered to the character. We first shot the ashram scenes after Lashmana drops me in the forest. I became a complete vegetarian, used to visit temple almost every day, do pooja and stopped meeting friends and people outside the unit. I was doing only this film and so my entire focus was on it.
What about the costumes?
Anu Vardhan was my designer. Bapu sir was very clear be it my costume or accessories. He is a perfectionist.
Tell us about Balakrishna who played Ram in the film?
I had worked with him earlier in Simha. He is the main reason for me to be a part of Sri Ramarajyam. I thank him from the bottom of my heart for believing in me and having the confidence that only I could do this role to perfection, more than me. And he is so convincing as Lord Rama in the film, that I cannot imagine any other actor in that role.
When your name was announced as the heroine, Tollywood was doubtful on how the glamourous diva could play one of the most sacred women personalities in the Hindu mythology?
Well, you should be asking Bapu sir this question. All I can say is that I am proud that I became a part of history by doing the role of Sita. I did my role with lot of dedication and sincerity. And today when I read all the positive reviews and feedback from audiences, I feel that I am blessed (Smiles).
How was it working with Bapu sir?
He is like a father figure to me. I am so lucky to have worked with him. He is a genius, a living legend who made each and every frame of Sri Ramarajyamlook like a painting. Bapu sir used to generate so much positive vibes around all of us. We used to shoot on a set erected outside city limits and it used to be a world of its own. Right from the director, cameraman Raju, Srikanth, other artists, assistant directors, managers to technicians were so dedicated and cool. Everything went on perfectly. No confusion or re-takes. After the movie was complete, Bapu sir gifted me a beautiful painting from Ramayana, which I will treasure for the rest of my life. He had a story board and knew exactly the schedule for the day.

Yalamanchali Sai Babu garu is a gem of a person. If not for his conviction,Sri Ramarajyam would not have been made. Today, when producers do not want to burn their hands doing mythologies, he not only spend crores but had so much of faith in the project. He was there always on the sets and saw to it personally that everyone was happy.
Everyone is unanimous that you have saved your best performance in this film where you not only looked like an oil painting but your lip sync was perfect?
All credits goes to cameraman Raju who has made me look good. I was so happy to see myself on screen especially in the tight close up scenes. And for all my Telugu films, I take care to get the lip sync correct, but probably everyone noticed it here because there were far too many close up shots (smiles). Dubbing of Savitha too helped a lot.
What next?
(Smiles)..As of now, I am extremely happy and thankful to God.
Mani Ratnam’s Thalapathy remake rights sold
Bharath Shah had co-produced Mani Ratnam’s Madhavan- Shalini romantic musical Alaipayuthey in Hindi as Saathiya with Vivek Oberoi and Rani Mukherjee.
Thalapathy had extraordinary music by Ilayaraja. The theme of the film is loosely based on the friendship between Karna and Duryodhana in epic Mahabharata. Internationally noted cinematographer Santosh Sivan, made his debut in the Tamil with the film.
The Hindi remake will be directed by Puja Jatinder Singhwho has assisted the producer for his various films. The shoot will start in early 2012.
Highcourt upholds Prashanth’s divorce
The Madras High Court has confirmed a family court order and granting divorce to Prashanth.
The actor had married Grihalakshmi in 2005 but it was proved that she had suppressed her earlier marriage registered in November 1998.
A division bench of Madras High Court comprising of Justice K Mohan Ram and Justice GM Akbar Ali said: “ The suppression of the marriage registered between Grihalakshmi and another person (Narayan Venu Prasad) is a material fact amounting to fraud and thereby render the marriage (with Prashant) voidable.”
Andrea was Kamal’s personal choice
Andrea Jeremiah who is well known for her voice and her roles in Aayirathil Oruvan and Pachaikilli Muthucharam. Now the singer cum actress has joined Kamal Hassan’s Viswaroopam to play as the second heroine.
Kamal himself has roped Andrea in for Viswaroopam, the reason is her talent in singing. Andrea who sang the song Who’s the Hero in Kamal’s Manmadhan Ambu impressed Kamal a lot who himself is a great singer. Later he also saw the acting skills of Andrea and finally he included Andrea in the Viswaroopam team.
Andrea who says it is a dream oppurtunity to work with a legend like Kamal sir and i am excited about my role she adds.

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are scouting for a suitable name for their first born. Abhishek’s father and actor Amitabh Bachchan has said that they have not found a suitable name for the baby yet and are referring to her as Beti B for the time being.Both Abhi and Amitabh are anxiously asking their friends and relatives to suggest a name for the little one. They are expected to zero in on a name and make an announcement very soon.
Vijay’s role in AR Murugadoss’s film
The film has not been titled yet and AR Murugadoss is expected to announce the title any time now. However, the speculations on Vijay’s role in this film have started to make rounds. As per some reports in Kollywood, Vijay’s role in the movie will be similar to that of Kamal Haasan’s in Nayagan.
Yet another news that we hear on this project is that the film will begin in Tiruchendur and it will show Vijay’s transition as dada in Mumbai.
Anjali turns brave for Vikram's Karikalan
Vikram’s historical flick Karikalan has got its third female lead. After roping in Zarine Khan, and Mithra Kurian, Anjali of Angadi Theru fame has been signed to play a key role in the forthcoming Tamil movie. Sources say that Anjali will be seen in a bold character. The actress recently had a photoshoot, which impressed director Kannan. Without delaying, he zeroed in for an important role.
Meanwhile, the actress has confirmed the news and said that she will be seen in the role of a leader of a faithful group. The Kattradhu Thamizh actress’ character demands her to learn sword-fighting and horse riding. The actress claims that she is game for it.
However, Vikram will be seen in the historical role of Karikalan Chola, one of the popular Tamil kings of early Chola during the Sangam period. Bollywood actress Zarine Khan is enacting the character of Velir girl. The movie is set in three different periods and it will have high-end graphics and visualisation.
Jiiva’s Mugamoodi
The latest buzz about UTV Motion Pictures’ ‘Mugamoodi’ is that, two film veterans, Nageswara Rao and Prakash Raj, will be seen in pivotal roles in the film. This film is reportedly Tamil cinema’s first ever superhero flick.
As earlier reported the movie will go on floors this November 30 and has Jiiva and Pooja Hegde in lead roles and Narain as the villain. Pooja Hegde will be seen as a television news reporter. Grapevine has it that Narain gave up on many offers due to date clashes and opted for ‘Mugamoodi’ due to the scope for performance and recognition in this film.
Music is by Krishnakumar aka K and lyrics are by Kabilan and Madhan Karky. Costumes are designed by Amritha and it is said that Jiiva’s superhero outfit weighs more than 10 kgs!
Vishal & Bala again!!!
National award winning director Bala will yet again direct hero Vishal for a new film as per the reports. The duo has recently came up with Avan Ivan that has turned out successful at the Box-Office. Vishal’s sister-in-law Shreya Reddy has shared this exciting news on microbloging site.
It is known that Vishal earned critical applauses for his performance as a squint eyed guy in Avan Ivan. Now, Vishal’s fans were excited with the news.
As of now, Vishal is currently busy with Samaran that has Trisha as the leading lady after which he will team up with his Sandakozhi director Lingusamy. Bala and Vishal’s project will begin after these couple of films.
In the meantime, Bala will wrap up the shoot of his next with Atharva in the lead that will start rolling from December first week.
Bala’s Eriyum Thanal First Look
Bala the National Award Winning director is getting ready for his next project Eriyum Thanal starring Adharva. This Malayalam novel which has been translated into Tamil by an author called Daniel, is titled as Eriyum Thanal.
Bala who is known for dealing Sensitive and Emotional subjects, after reading the Novel got the copyrights to bring it to life and also kept the same title.
The novel is based on a couple who have a child and the trials and tribulations they face in bringing their child up. Adharva plays the Son’s role and other roles are yet to be finalised. Also Bala is targetting this film for International Film Festivals.
This time Bala has roped GV Prakash to play the tunes and the musician took it as an honor to work with him. Adharva is getting shaped up for the role. The First Look of Eriyum Thanal is expected in a short period of time.
Kamal Hassan blames Selvaraghvan for Vishwaroobham delay
Kamal Hassan has finally opened up on why he took over reins of Vishwaroobham from Selvaraghavan, who had claimed that he walked out due to his commitment with other projects. The legendary actor has pointed his finger at the filmmaker for not utilising his dates and which also made Sonakshi Sinha to opt out of the bilingual film.
Kamal Hassan said that as Selvaraghavan did not respect his time, the actor was forced to take the responsibility of directing Vishwaroobham. “It was my project and my story. But time was running out. Sonakshi’s dates were gone. My dates were also running out. I do one project at a time. If the director doesn’t respect my time, I will have to.” The Mid-day quoted the actor as saying.
He believes that when someone fails to utilise his dates, the project becomes his own. Meanwhile, the multifaceted actor has roped in a New York based actress Pooja Kumar to play the female lead role in Vishwaroobham.
‘Irandaam Ulagam’ from December?
Known for taking time between films, Selvaraghavan is going against the popular perception against him. The director, who will have the release of ‘Mayakkam Enna’ in the last week of November, will start his next venture ‘Irandaam Ulagam’ immediately.
Confirming this, Selva says, “Yes, I will start Irandaam Ulagam in December. The film will have Arya and Anushka in lead roles.” He also clarified that ‘Irandaam Ulagam’ is not the title he originally planned for ‘Mayakkam Enna’. “Only the media claimed it that way,” he adds.
Talking about ‘Mayakkam Enna’, the maker of ‘Pudupettai’ and ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’, says, “It is about today’s youngsters who believe that nothing is wrong. The film will peep into their world and bring to the light their way of approach towards life. Dhanush is a perfect fit to the role.”
This is fourth time for Selva to work with his National Award winning brother, after ‘Thulluvadho Ilamai’, ‘Kadhal Konden’ and ‘Pudupettai’. “The movie was about to hit the screens Deepavali itself, but got delayed due to my ill-health. All is well now,” concludes the filmmaker.
Sarika Kamal Haasan cherishes about Shruti and Akshara
Sarika Kamal Haasan still cherishes every moment of her life spent in the industry and maintains nothing much has changed in then and now.
Speaking about her children, Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan, ‘I feel happy to see Shruti doing films. Akshara, of course, does not want to act. She is more the ‘behind the camera’ person, and is also assisting on a film.’
Do they at least take her advice before making any suggestions? ‘Yes, they do. If there is something they feel they need to discuss with me before deciding, they do ask me and I give suggestions. But I do not impose anything on them. I really don’t interfere in my girls’ life, and I think no parents should do it.’
Whom will ARM favor for his 7am Arivu Hindi version?
Both have disclosed their wish to go in for the remake and it is not known whom will ARM favor in this regard. What made them feel to reap this remake was the imminent success of the remake Tamil films, Ghazni for Aamir while Salman won the fame with Wanted (Pokkiri) and Bodyguard (Kavalan).
Thus they believe that the concept of 7am Arivu may bring in new horizon in the conventional Bollywood stories. In this puzzling move, it all rests on the decision of ARM to prefer the hero of his choice. Kaun Banega Bodhidharama?

Oru Kal Oru Kannadi Audio Soon
The shooting of Red Giant Movies head Udhayanidhi Stalin’s acting debut Oru Kal Oru Kannadi is almost complete except for two songs. The post production works are on simultaneously and the film is expected to grace theatres soon.
After the grand success of Siva Manasula Sakthi and Boss Engira Bhaskaran, director Rajesh started working on his third rib tickling romantic movie, Oru Kal Oru Kannadi. The movie, titled from the hit song from Siva Manasula Sakthi, has Hansika Motwani as the heroine. The trailer of the film was launched recently along with Murugadoss’ 7 Aum Arivu and audio soon.
Like Rajesh’s earlier movies, comedian Santhanam will present his signature humour.

Arya and Vishal combo once again
Arya and Vishal who was seen in director Bala’s Avan Ivan will make a comeback again it seems. The duo who scored well in Avan Ivan shares a good bond off-screen too. So bringing the combo back will be easier for a National Award winning director like Bala.
Vishal who performed the role of a squint eyed person in Avan Ivan won him accolades. Presently Vishal is busy with his upcoming project Samaran with Trisha in the lead, the he will be joining hands with Lingusamy for Sandakozhi Sequel.
Arya who is gearing up with Vettai will start his next project with director Selvaraghavan for Irandam Ulagam.

I will not act with Jai in future: Anjali
It was a harmless publicity gimmick for a film that became serious.
Anjali of Angaditheru and Engeyum Eppodhum fame has gone ahead and released a press release, denying that she is in love with Jai, her co-star.
Remember that there were reports in media about the sizzling chemistry between the pair in Engeyum Eppodhum and later during the promotion of the film. In fact director Murugadoss who is the producer of EE, before release of the film tried to promote the pair as “madly in love”.
After the film turned out to be a runaway super hit, the audiences too thought that their on-screen chemistry was real.
Murgadoss cashed in on it by making them compere the 7aum Arivu audio launch. The fine pair tickled the audiences with their smart one-liners and camaraderie, which brought them even closer.
But once EE became a hit the pair realised that unknowingly they were attracted to each other. However Anjali realised that all the publicity would be bad for her career which is now on the upswing.
The actress has now gone ahead a step further by not only denying her affair with Jai but also making a statement that she will never act opposite him!
Like the old adage “there is no smoke without fire”, Anjali`s decision to deny her affair with Jai after taking him up the garden path smacks of double standards.
In this industry even romances are created to make the box-office jingle.
A.R Rahman composes for Gautham Menon
After the release of ‘ROCK STAR’ oscar winning music composer A.R Rahman next movie is for Gautham menon ‘s film titled ‘Ek Deewna Tha’.This is Gautham Menon’s second venture in hindi after Rehna heye tere dil mein.
Ek deewna tha produced by Fox Star Studios and directed by Gautham menon is said to release in early 2012.Ek deewna tha is said to be the tamil block buster remake of “Vinnaithandi Varuvaya”.
Surya graces 42nd International Film Festival
Surya who has took a break from Maatran shooting seems to stay occupied with something else. This time Surya will be gracing the 42nd International Film Festival which takes place at Goa. The dates are Scheduled from November 23rd – December 3rd, a 10 days event. So Surya will have a great time in Goa by relieving from the stress he had put upon 7am Arivu and Maatran.
Some of the big celebs who are expected at this Mega event includes Shahrukh Khan, Luc Besson, Bertrand Tavernier, Laurance Kardish, Michelle Yeoh, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Dan Wolman, Dino Morea, Raima Sen, Prem Chopra among the others. A total of 90 plus films from 65 countries will be screened at this International film festival.
