Khushbu Sundar Regrets Her Role in Annaatthe: A Disappointment in Her Career

Some movies, despite their star-studded cast and high expectations, fail to meet the actor's hopes, and in certain cases, can even harm their career. Khushbu Sundar recently opened up about a particular film in her career that left her regretting her involvement. This film, Annaatthe, which starred the legendary Rajinikanth, was supposed to be a major project for Sundar. However, it did not turn out as she had hoped.

In a recent interview, when asked about any films she wished she had not been a part of, Khushbu shared her thoughts on Annaatthe. She revealed that while her Hindi filmography is limited, there are several Tamil films she regrets being part of, with Annaatthe being a prime example. She candidly admitted that the role she was offered did not match what was initially promised to her.

The film, directed by Siva, was an action-packed drama, and Khushbu's character was meant to be a major part of the narrative. However, as the film progressed, she found herself dissatisfied with how things evolved. According to Khushbu, the film’s portrayal of her role did not align with what was originally conveyed to her. She mentioned that her character, which was initially described as a fun-loving, comical, and light-hearted one, became exaggerated and unrealistic in the final version.

Khushbu did not directly name the film in the interview but provided enough clues for the audience to understand which project she was referring to. She explained that the original plan for the film had her and actress Meena as the two heroines. Khushbu agreed to join the project because, at the time, no other actress was paired opposite Rajinikanth. However, as the film progressed, the character dynamics shifted, and Rajinikanth's character unexpectedly developed a romantic angle with another heroine, which altered the original vision of the film. To her disappointment, a new character was introduced, and her role became overshadowed.

During the dubbing session, when Khushbu saw the final version of Annaatthe, she felt a sense of disappointment. She had hoped for a character that would bring joy and laughter, but the final portrayal didn’t resonate with her expectations. She had hoped her role would offer something different, but instead, she was left feeling that the character had been reduced to a caricature.

Annaatthe, released in 2021, is an action-packed drama that tells the story of Kaalaiyan, a protective sarpanch played by Rajinikanth. Kaalaiyan goes to great lengths to protect his younger sister, who elopes with her lover and faces dangers in West Bengal. The movie also stars Keerthy Suresh as Kaalaiyan’s sister, Nayanthara as his love interest, and a host of other talented actors, including Jagapathi Babu, Prakash Raj, Soori, and Pandiarajan in significant roles.

Khushbu’s reflections on Annaatthe are a reminder that not every project, no matter how promising it seems at the start, results in a fulfilling career experience. She joins a long list of actors who have occasionally been disappointed by the outcomes of their roles.

Remember child actress Ann Alexia Anra from Kamal Haasan's Avvai Shanmugi?

Ann Alexia Anra, best known for her role as a child in the 1996 Tamil comedy Avvai Shanmugi, has since grown up and ventured into the environmental sector as an entrepreneur. Directed by KS Ravikumar and written by Crazy Mohan, Avvai Shanmugi starred Kamal Haasan and Meena, with a notable supporting cast that included Gemini Ganesan, Nagesh, and others. Anra's other well-known film is the 2000 hit Hera Pheri, which remains a classic, still generating memes and laughs even over two decades after its release.

In Avvai Shanmugi, Anra played the role of a kidnapped little girl, sparking a series of comedic events. Today, she describes herself as an "ex-actress" and works as a sustainability consultant.

When the COVID-19 pandemic kept people at home, many turned to classic films like Hera Pheri, reigniting interest in Anra’s childhood performance.

Raised in Chennai, Anra is now dedicated to her work in the environmental field, where she has launched initiatives like Take Me Back Chennai and Wasted 360 Solutions.

Despite her early success in films, Anra's parents were initially reluctant for her to pursue acting. They had no objections to her doing advertisements, but they were hesitant about the time commitment required for films. She was allowed to take part in Hera Pheri because it was filmed during her summer vacation, but after that, her parents decided against letting her act in more films. In addition to Avvai Shanmugi and Hera Pheri, Anra appeared in two other films: the Tamil movie Thaayin Manikodi with Tabu, and a cameo role in the Hindi film Hathyara alongside Mithun Chakraborty.

Currently, Anra has no intention of returning to acting. While she occasionally gets offers for commercials, she feels that her best work was as a child actress and has no desire to revive her career in film.
