Indian teenager Gukesh Dommaraju became the youngest world champion at the age of just 18.

D.Gukesh, a chess prodigy from Chennai, became the youngest FIDE World Chess Champion by defeating China’s Ding Liren in a thrilling match in Singapore. At 18, he broke Garry Kasparov’s record to become the youngest world champion. Gukesh, who became a grandmaster at 12, had dreamed of this moment since he was seven.

The 14-game match was tied after 13 games, but in the final game, Ding made a mistake on move 55, which Gukesh used to win the title. Over the past three years, Gukesh has achieved major successes, including two Olympiad gold medals and a team bronze in Chennai (2022). Winning the Candidates Tournament gave him the chance to face Ding.




Gukesh is mentored by five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand and has benefited from India’s strong chess community. His parents, both doctors, paused their careers to support him. With sponsorship from Westbridge Capital and help from his school, Velammal Vidyalaya, Gukesh overcame early financial challenges.

Besides chess, Gukesh enjoys meditation, swimming, and tennis. His main goal is to become the world’s top player and have a long career in chess.

I Shouldn't Have Acted in Cuckoo – Dinesh

 

When reflecting on past decisions, some choices can haunt us for years. For me, one of those choices was opting to watch the movie Cuckoo. Even now, if you were to ask me about it, I would strongly advise against watching it—not because of the movie itself, but because of the unintended consequences it had on my health.

For the past five years, I've been dealing with persistent eye problems that I initially didn't connect to that particular film. It all started shortly after watching Cuckoo, a movie that seemed like an innocent entertainment choice at the time. However, shortly after, I began experiencing a series of troubling symptoms—frequent headaches, watery eyes, and a general feeling of discomfort that seemed to affect my vision.

The problem only worsened as time went on. My eyes became more sensitive to light, and I constantly felt an ache behind my eyes, making it difficult to focus on everyday tasks. Whether reading, using a computer, or even watching television, it was always there, a dull throb reminding me that something was wrong. {alertWarning}

I sought medical advice, but despite various treatments, the issue has persisted for years. The doctors couldn’t pinpoint a single cause, and the symptoms remained a mystery. It wasn't until much later that I started to connect the dots. I began to wonder if the conditions that followed the movie might have triggered some underlying issues with my eyes.

Looking back, I regret choosing to watch Cuckoo. What seemed like a harmless choice has left me with ongoing eye problems that affect my quality of life. I’m constantly reminded of the consequences of not being careful about the movies or shows I consume, especially when considering how they can impact our physical and mental well-being.

It's a reminder that even seemingly small decisions can have long-lasting effects, and we should be cautious of the possible consequences—whether in terms of our health or other aspects of life. If I had known then what I know now, I would have certainly made a different choice.
