During a conference held recently, director Balu Mahendra made a speech about cinema. The ace director said that what we call world cinema is in fact cinema made in a particular country or state for their locals. It is in fact local cinema but when it reaches the world platform it transpires into world cinema, said Balu Mahendra.
The director pointed out that to make such films, a huge budget is not required. Drawing the national award winning director Vettrimaran into the issue, Balu Mahendra questioned him why he had gone commercial too.
When his turn to take on the mike came, Vettrimaran simply put it that he had sold his soul to the Satan before wielding the megaphone.
